Institutsviertel (see inlet map)
We are delighted to welcome you in the Institute Quarter (Institutsviertel) close to the city centre of Freiburg. Most conference events will take place here.
Icebreaker
In case the weather is good, the icebreaker will take place in the backyard of our institute building (see photo of the institute's main entrance below, Albertstraße 23b). There will be a registration desk at the icebreaker venue. If the weather is bad, the icebreaker venue will be announced.
Registration, Regular Talks and Workshop I
The conference office (registration), all regular talks, our Environmental Records and Landscape Change workshop, as well as most coffeebreaks (apart from the one on Tuesday afternoon) will take place in the "Hörsaal Pharmazie" in Hermann-Herder Straße 7.
Poster Session
The poster session and the included coffeebreak (Tuesday afternoon) will take place in the so called "Herderbau". Please enter the building from Tennenbacherstraße and follow the signs to the archaeological collection.
Excursion departure point and Workshop II (ECR)
Participants of the ECR Workshop meet in Hörsaal 1 within the Institute for Geology (Alberstraße 23b, see photo on the left). The conference departure stop is located directly in front of the main entrance of the institute. However, the Kaiserstuhl Excursion will start at Main Station.
Outside the institutsviertel
The Winetasting
The winetasting will take place in the Staatsweingut Freiburg (Merzhauserstraße 119). You can reach the location via tram (line 3 from Tennenbacherstraße, direction: Haid. Change at Bertholdsbrunnen to line 4. Direction: Vauban. Leave the tram at Peter-Thumb-Straße and walk back for ca. 180 m. You will find the location on your right hand side.
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will take place at the Ganter brewery (Wodanhalle) some 30 min walking distance away from the institute (crossing the old town on your way by walk is highly recommended - you can also take tram line 1 in the direction of Littenweiler, exit: Brauerei Ganter).

We will order several feast options for you including vegan and vegetarian ones (these can be selected during the registration, special allergy-restriction need to be inidcated during the registration process).
Freiburg City Tour
The Freiburg City Tour will start at the "Münsterbauhütte" (Schoferstraße 7). We highly recommend to walk there, but If you want, you can use tram 3 (dircetion: Haid), exit at Bertholdsbrunnen and walk the remaining distance.
Accommodation
Freiburg is not only scientifically attractive; it is also a tourist magnet. Hence, we strongly recommend to book a hotel room at your earliest convenience. We do have agreements with a limited number of hotels close to the conference venue so that you can benefit either from discounts or even from a contingent reservation. These options are listed below:
Discount:
The Paradies (www.paradies-freiburg.de) offers a 10% discount for rooms if you make a reservation and mention the password "Konferenz Oktober 2026".
Contingent:
The Aparthotel Freiburg (www.aparthotel-freiburg.de) will reserve rooms for us (until the 28th of August 2026) as follows:

3x small double bed rooms for two persons at 119 € / person
